Naval Jijina, born in 1929, Surat, Gujarat is a versatile artist, musician and photographer, encompassing painting and photography weaved together with creative passion for mythology, classical Indian music, and textile design in his oeuvre. He studied mural painting and colour experimentation at JJ School of Arts, Mumbai,1956 to1962. Jijina also joined the Photographic Society of India and merited in form of colour transparencies with the art of photography.
His signature style involves generous, uninhibited layers of thick impasto, that transcend into abstract aerial views of imagined landscapes along with faint expressions of figurative objects that arise from colour, defining his artistic repertoire. He had a penchant for being engrossed in mellifluous sounds alongside creating visual of musical nodes intertwined with modernism.
