“I learnt that there was more truth in black and white than colour, though appealing, was not enough of a challenge, because life is full of shades. You will find the colour of fire in the spirit of my paintings, the colour of dreams in my strokes, the many hues of passion that bring to life my creations.”
Born in 1967, Ajay De spent his days drawing, fuelled by reiterating forms from his childhood memories and the wonderment of nature along with subject matter that besiege modern-day society.
After graduating from the Government College of Arts and Crafts and completing his post-graduate from J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai, he found himself drawn towards the monotones of charcoal, a medium he welcomed with stunning effect achieved by control involving the deft use of fingers, thumb and even the palm whilst mastering juxtaposition in his portraits that emit an enigmatic mood.
