Mukhtar Kazi, born in Bhiwandi, Thane, 1977 is a self-taught artist whose practice focuses on the search of light through abstract forms. For several years, he lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where he worked as a mural artist working on commissions in the palaces of the Saudi Royals. Upon his return to India, he went on to earn his teaching diploma at HBS College, Malegaon.
To gain intellectual, spiritual, scientific and philosophical liberty, Kazi uses light in hispaintings, oft used to illuminate subjects of a narrative act in search of himself along withlight, through every tint, tone and shade in his monotoned abstracts where hue ascends and descends like a cascade. One can identify the hidden patterns in his layered paintings which some might ascertain as a landscape.
With juxtaposing linearity and hues, Mukhtar draws fantasies of faraway lands albeit looking closer to his very own suburbia – a survival through margins.
The artist lives and works in Thane, India.
