Mayuri Chari

Mayuri Chari, born in Goa, 1991 is a conceptual artist defining leadership and female representation that is observed and expressed through her subject specific work. She completed her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Goa College of Art (2013) and a Masters in Painting from SN School of Art, Hyderabad Central University (2017). She is influenced by the statement, ‘A woman is not born, she is created’, the perception of women treated in society either as goddesses or as objects of consumption.

Her oeuvre argues that women should be treated as individual equals. Mayuri tours the feminine image via her watercolour miniatures and textile art embroidered with self-written poems and statements. Oft, she chooses an object or a medium inspired by a woman’s life, sometimes that of her own as a mode and medium of her creation. An iron, a utensil, a garment – objects that make up a woman’s daily life.

Mayuri was recently chosen as the artist in residence for India Art fair, 2024.

The artist lives and work Mumbai, Maharashtra.
